Electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal treatment available for grey hair, white hair and fine blonde hair. Most areas of the body can be treated with electrolysis, including the eyebrows, face, abdomen, thighs, breasts, and legs. There are generally no permanent side effects, but sometimes a temporary, slight reddening of the skin may occur. It is safe for all Skin types.
How does electrolysis work?
A very low current is applied directly to the hair follicle, which conducts electricity more than the hair itself, destroying the root and allowing it to be removed whole. Each hair needs to be treated on a number of occasions until its blood supply is sealed off and it cannot grow again.
What Causes Unwanted Hair Growth?
Hair growth is the result of heredity and hormone levels. Temporary methods of hair removal and illnesses can stimulate hair growth. Electrolysis may be an option when hair growth is in an area of the body where it may not be desired such as on a woman’s upper lip, chin, or bikini line.
How Many Electrolysis Treatments Will I Need?
Many factors influence hair growth, so you will need to return for several electrolysis visits. The total number of sessions needed to remove hair permanently from a particular area will vary from person to person. Most clients return once a week or every other week as needed. But the unwanted hair will be gone forever once the series of treatments is complete. Each treatment typically lasts between 15 minutes and one hour.
Consultation appointment
At Laser Me, we offer a free consultation prior to carrying out treatment, where the procedure will be explained, and a medical history taken. This will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions about the procedure.
How to prepare for electrolysis
We recommend a weekly appointment to catch and destroy all the hair in growth phase. It is necessary to grow the hair to at least 2mm in order to locate them. Only shaving is permitted between treatments. Sugaring, waxing, threading and plucking all increase blood flow under the skin with the eventual effect of increasing regrowth.
Downtime?
Depending on skin type sensitivity, some clients may experience some redness and slight swelling immediately following electrolysis treatment which typically resolves itself within an hour or two of treatment. Post-treatment care will be discussed with you by your Therapist during the consultation
